"Morro Rock stands 576 feet tall and is perched on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. It is home to nesting Peregrine Falcons and is part of a chain of nine volcanic peaks that extend from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay known as the Nine Sisters. Morro Rock, now a California State Historic Landmark, was formed about 23 million years ago from the plug of a long-extinct volcano." Morro Bay
"The Morro Bay estuary is formed by the meeting of freshwater from Chorro and Los Osos Creeks with saltwater from the Pacific Ocean. The estuary is largely protected from the ocean by a lengthy, naturally-occurring sandspit. This creates calm, warm waters that allow a wide variety of plants and wildlife to thrive."
